    Steve Coleman and Five Elements Fundraiser for New Music USA

    SubCulture: 45 Bleecker St in New York City

    On May 21 2015 Steve Coleman and Five Elements will be one of four groups that will participate in a fundraiser for New Music USA at SubCulture, located at 45 Bleecker St in New York City. The event starts at 6pm with a cocktail hour, and performances will begin at 7 pm.

    The other three ensembles will be the PRISM Quartet with Rudresh Mahanthappa, RighteousGirls (featuring a work by Andy Akiho and another by Pascal leBoeuf) and Wet Ink Ensemble.

    Steve Coleman and Five Elements: Chicago Residency

    Chicago, IL, primary location: the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts. Final Performance on Aug 6 2015 at Made in Chicago in Millennium Park

    From July 11 to August 6 2015, Steve Coleman and Five Elements will present a residency in Chicago. The primary location of activities will be the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts.

    • Final Performance on Aug 6 2015 at Made in Chicago: World Class Jazz in Millennium Park

    There will be frequent performances and workshops at various venues within the Logan Center, and also other appearances in the Chicago area. There will also be outreach activities mostly done on the South Side of Chicago.

    On Aug 6 2015 there will be a final grand performance in Millennium Park as part of the Made in Chicago concert series.

    This is a collaboration of M-Base Concepts, Inc., the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts and Arts + Public Life at the University of Chicago, Rebuild, and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events in partnership with the Jazz Institute of Chicago.

    American Composers Orchestra – Jazz Composers Orchestra Institute Workshop

    Herb Alpert School of Music, UCLA

    Steve Coleman is one of the instructors this summer workshop intensive. The American Composers Orchestra (ACO) and The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, in cooperation with the Center for Jazz Studies at Columbia University, presents the third Jazz Composers Orchestra Institute (JCOI) in 2015-16. The program commences August 8-13, 2015 with a Summer Intensive at The Herb Alpert School at UCLA. A second phase of the program includes Orchestral Readings of new music by select participants in spring-fall of 2016.

    A variety of performance and educational activities at: the Rigby Mansion in Germantown, the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, Kimmel Center, Swarthmore College, Philadelphia Clef Club, and various pop-up performances and activities round the broader Philadelphia area.

    From October 5 through October 18 2015, Steve Coleman and Five Elements will present a residency in Philadelphia. A combination of performances, open rehearsals, outreach, workshops and other educational activities will occur throughout the broader Philadelphia are, including at the Rigby Mansion in Germantown (the main hub of our activities), the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, Kimmel Center, Swarthmore College, Philadelphia Clef Club, and various pop-up performances and activities round the broader Philadelphia area.

    From November 30 to December 20, 2015, Steve Coleman and Five Elements will present a residency in Los Angeles. The primary location of activities will be the Blue Whale in downtown Los Angeles.

    There will be frequent performances and workshops at the Blue Whale, and also other locations in the Los Angeles area. There will also be outreach activities mostly done in the Southern California area.

     

    Steve Coleman and Five Elements will perform 6 nights a week at The Blue Whale with the following schedule:

    Monday Nov 30
    Wednesday through Sunday, Dec 2-6
    Tuesday through Sunday, Dec 8-13
    Tuesday through Sunday, Dec 15-20

     

    We will be presenting advanced intensive workshops for musicians Tuesday December 8 through Sunday December 13, 2015.

     

    This is a production of M-Base Concepts, Inc., in collaboration with the Blue Whale, various Universities and other nonprofit partners in the LA area.

     

    Steve Coleman and Five Elements presented a successful residency this past summer in Chicago, and now focus their attention on the West Coast of the United States. These pilot residencies are designed to generate energy in the areas where they occur, educate local musicians and introduce audiences to creative and progressive music.
