The cornetist Graham Haynes is the son of the legendary jazz drummer Roy Haynes. He grew up in Hollis, Queens and as Graham Haynes remembers 'there were quite a few musicians who lived in that neighborhood. Roy Eldridge lived right round the corner and so did Milt Jackson and Jacki Byard'. At a very young age Haynes decided to follow in his father's footsteps and made his debut in his highschool band, sharing the spotlight with Marcus Miller. In 1982 he joined forces with Steve Coleman in the M-Base ensemble Five Elements. Since 1987 Haynes has dedicated himself to the exploration of his own brand of world music: a synthesis of African, Asian, Near Eastern and African-American creative musics. With the release of his latests two albums, 'The Griots Footsteps' and 'Transition', Graham Haynes has established hisself as one of the important creative thinkers in music today.
